Artemis, greek goddess of the hunt, wilderness, and wild animals, rides her familiar through the deep forest. She is a warrior acting as protector of the woods and all life that dwells within it’s green embrace. In this drawing, Artemis also represents the goddess and witch in all her strength and confidence. The goat is an allusion to the Baphomet, a goat-headed diety with roots in Pagan history and thereafter in occult history. The Baphomet is a symbol of complete balance (dark and light, male and female) as well as ritual magic and witchcraft. Many believe the Baphomet represents a version of the horned-god who was a consort of the Goddess. ‘Artemis’ represents the union of the goddess and horned-god as well as the strong relationship between magick folk and nature.
